moreTVU4u beta

TVU is a p2ptv tool featuring hundreds of channels. If the terms “bruceploitation”, “grindhouse”, “Kimba”, “Astroboy”, “cut and paste Ninja films”, “Space Thunder Kids”,  sound fimilar to you, then you will love TVU. Dozens of channels featured on TVU are aimed at people who are interested in old and obscure movies from cartoons, sci-fi, action to horror and martial arts.

Unfortunately the TVU client itself does not feature many customization options for the viewer: there is no neatly arranged tvu schedule, no possibility to manage your favorite movies, no picture correction features and no record stream option without being registered. Therefore I decided to write my own easy and quick to use frontend for TVU.

I’m not going to bore you with a feature list, instead just see a little collage I created:

Intoduction moarLiveScores4u

While working on moreTVU4u I came up with an idea for a tool which is as useful to a football(soccer) fan as moreTVU4u is useful to a movie fan.

Fans of the world’s most popular sports might have heard of the website livescores.com. This site features live results for all most important football matches world wide. Even in a world where (illigal) live streams dominate p2ptv in certain situation a live result page still can be a nifty thing have. For instance what can you do if you are watching a match with a group of friends who are all fans of different teams that are all playing at the same time? What to do if all streams of a match have been taken down? What if your internet connection is not fast enough for the only available stream. What if you are at work where watching sports is sadistically not tolerated? ;)

Those are typical situations that scream for a livescores.com type of websites. However there are some drawbacks to those:

  • depending on their design you might need to refresh the website manually
  • you have to rely on your intuition to “feel” when to check for results
  • depending on their design the website might become pretty slow when traffic is high, making automatically self refreshing sites hang in an NSL(never stop loading) state
  • while watching a match in full screen you’d have to switch from full screen to window mode all the time just to watch the results on the web page

So I decided to code a little tool to resolve those issues:

  • The application will constantly check the livescores website for goals, cards, penalties and substitutions
  • The user can select certain games, teams or players he would like to be informed about
  • It will also be possible to specify sound files which will be played as soon as one of those events occurred

Current state of the development:

A text based(no GUI yet) proof of concept,  which at the moment can download the website, recognize running/finished games or games paused for half time breaks, recognize the games of your favorite team(s) , play a sound file as soon as a goal has been scored in one of your favorite team’s game, recognize if “your” team scored.
